fast life
There are songs that come from the blue-eyed grass, From the dust of a thousand country roads, From footprints in white sand. Aboriginals call it 'songlines'- Mapping steps through the silk route of time.
If only, we could pause, And hear the songs around. The one on our shoulder, The one on autumn's last leaf. On monsoon's first rain drop— Riding on a butterfly's turmeric wings.
There are songs which are dying, Because no one hears them anymore. Because there is no space for blue-eyed grass, And none for country roads.

| Old blue bed | | An old blue bed, That offer's little sleep, Is a place, where alone, I recline to weep. And arms, now vacant, Hold little but air, They fall weak and tremble, Without you there. These hands, once creative, Little more than fill space, Reduced to redundant, For not touching your face. So too lips of passion, Now parched and drawn thin, Are merely marking place, Where your kisses have been. Thus a barely beating heart, Now all pounding is through, Keeps time for the spasms, Of longing for you. |

FOR ALL THOSE WHO WILL BE CELEBRATING THEIR 40th. birthday
| Ageing | | Oh what despair, I'm losing my hair! With brutal dismay, I watch locks go away. My laugh turns to gags As my eyes collect bags, And my supple young skin Turns wrinkled and thin. As breathing becomes harder, Each step seems much further...
Hell, I'm falling apart! Are those pains in my heart? Should I stay here in bed? Can't be that far off dead!
Yet I once used to chortle, Felt like I was immortal, Body so fit and strong, I would go on and on.
Never dreamed I'd become frail, Or that organs would fail, And my memory go hazy, So forgetful, they think I'm crazy.
And such torture and torment, As my back becomes more bent, And my memory goes hazy... Did I mention that? Whoops-a-daisy!
Did I just say 'whoops-a-daisy'? Sound like my Pop, and he was crazy, No, I'm not as bad as that, I've never bought a bowling hat, Although last summer I did buy mittens. But they were cheap, with little kittens...
No I'm fine, not going senile - But then again, it could be denial! And there's my memory, it's going hazy, And my eyes are getting lazy, I'm cracking up, I'm going deaf, How little time do I have left? Another birthday will hit me shortly, My god, the horror, I'm nearly fourty! |
